If you join our team, you will be involved in the implementation and validation of proprietary MIMO technologies for the nascent rural broadband market utilizing custom Software-Defined Radio (SDR) equipment. On a day-to-day basis, you will work with our proprietary Xilinx FPGA-based platform and have the flexibility to define your own workflow and tools based on project requirements. You will assist other engineers with the specification and testing of new, innovative MIMO protocols and be involved with the development of patents and hardware integration for state-of-the-art wireless systems.

About Us

We are a wireless networking hardware startup headquartered in the vibrant heart of Houston, TX, specializing in Software-Defined Radios (SDR) and wireless beamforming or “Massive-MIMO” technologies for 5G wireless systems. Originally founded in 2012 by Ph.D. colleagues in order to provide custom software-defined radio equipment for research and development, today we design and manufacture 5G/Next-G radio solutions, addressing the needs of the rural broadband market.

Skylark’s proprietary Faros® last-mile radio platform provides high-speed, point-to-multi-point (PtMP), non-line-of-sight (NLoS) links over tens of miles using patented Massive-MIMO technologies first developed at Rice University. Skylark is pre-Series A and funded through a mix of sales, seed investment, and federal grants. With your help, we will be bringing our next-generation Faros Massive MIMO system to market in the Texas region and beyond.

Wireless DSP Engineer

We are looking for an experienced developer with an intimate understanding of FPGA programming and DSP architectures for wireless communications to implement and test embedded DSP algorithms for a 5G massive MIMO wireless communications network stack. You will be responsible for implementing core HDL IP blocks within our system and integrating them with hardware and software components.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical or computer engineering (Ph.D./Master’s/Bachelor’s)
  • Industry experience with wireless systems
  • Working knowledge of radio physics and algorithms related to OFDMA and digital beamforming
  • Intimate knowledge of wireless communications PHY and MAC layers
  • Ability to design and execute wireless tests and experiments involving software-defined radios (e.g. GNURadio, WARP)
  • LTE (4G, 5G) protocol knowledge
  • Verilog/VHLD, embedded C/C++, MATLAB, Xilinx Vivado, Xilinx ISE, Linux, Python, LTE (4G, 5G) protocol simulation and implementation

Embedded Software Developer

We are looking for an experienced Linux embedded software developer with an intimate understanding of multicore and bare-metal optimization to implement and test server-based wireless DSP algorithms for a wireless communications network stack. You’ll also work closely with architects, software developers, and technicians to ensure we continue to deliver high-quality, robust hardware and software solutions.

We are looking for a software developer who likes programming in C/C++/Python and is comfortable interfacing with embedded developers and technicians, working with electronics, participating in design reviews, and helping with customer demos. If you have a strong interest in wireless systems and helping to create a robust, secure, well-tested system, you could be a perfect fit for this role.

Electronics Design Engineer

We are looking for both entry-level engineers with a passion for circuit design who want to build a career in the cutting-edge 5G wireless space, as well as industry veterans that will take a leadership role in our hardware design and manufacturing team. As part of a small, agile team, you will work alongside our experienced hardware design engineers to draft product requirements, capture design schematics and select components, perform physical PCB design and layout, handoff designs to manufacturing, and finally bring up and troubleshoot new products. You will work with mechanical, software, and test engineering teams to co-design your systems for volume manufacturability and robust outdoor reliability.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical or computer engineering (Ph.D./Master’s/Bachelor’s)
  • Intimate knowledge of electronic circuit design and implementation
  • Familiarity with 4G/5G or Wi-Fi radio systems
  • Familiarity with microwave system design and high-speed PCB layout, signal integrity
  • Intimate understanding of serial communications protocols, power system design, basic electronic components

Electronics Technician

We are looking for both entry-level and experienced technicians with experience repairing and reworking microelectronics (e.g. surface mount electrical components), AC and DC electrical systems, and computer networking equipment. You will supplement a skilled group of telecommunications and electrical engineers headquartered in Houston as we design, prototype, and manufacture advanced 5G wireless systems for military and commercial customers. You will work in a collaborative, dynamic startup environment, utilizing your troubleshooting and repair skills to help our team develop, test, and deploy prototype 5G radios in both lab and field scenarios.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of electronics systems and basic understanding of electrical circuits
  • Microelectronics soldering and repair skills (surface mount rework)
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems (e.g. radios, embedded computers)
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, and test systems in lab and field environments
  • Familiarity with basic test equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers
